Good News, Everyone!
As it turns out, there's a free open source alternative to Ventrilo called Mumble.
Mumble is as low profile as vent, more customizable, and best of all, the server client, called murmur, can support up to 100 connections at a time! This way, we won't have to purchase a vent server.
Try it out! Use the link above to download the client, then connect to the server. The address is 76.175.96.107, port 64738. Take some time to try it out, and maybe we can use it this Wednesday for a fresh attempt at that damnable lava worm.
In addition, the server can be configured with multiple channels. If you want me set up a channel, just let me know.
Good Hunting, Everyone!

The Order Rocks ICC: Part 5
At last we come to it, the final installment of The Order Rocks ICC. The climax of the battle was truly spectacular, worthy of even the best old world content. The third phase of the fight was similar to the second phase, with the added effect that Arthas occasionally attempted to seal a player's soul within Frostmourn. I was fortunate enough to be one of those whom this happened to (if fortune is having your soul sucked out, that is).
The interior of Frostmourn is a frozen arena where the soul of King Terenas, formerly of Lorderon, is struggling against an arcane manifestation. The goal for the player is either to destroy the menace attacking the king before it can kill the king, or else heal the king enough so that he can kill it. Once this is done, the player is freed from Frostmourn to continue the battle. Unfortunately the fight was rather hectic by this point and I only had time to snap a quick screen shot of the interior of Frostmourn which, while it looks neat, isn't terribly descriptive. Even with this brief pause I barely killed the arcane beast in time.
Finally, at 10% of his health remaining, Arthas simply kills everyone. That's it. Dead.
We all lay there, eagerly anticipating the final stretch of this epic battle as the Lich King gloated over his prize: the best heroes that Azeroth had to offer. Those who had defeated his strongest champions. We were his for reanimation and service.
The reanimation began...
Tirion Fordring broke free of his bonds just in time to save us. Even as the Lich King channeled his necromantic energies towards raising each of us as his deadliest, most powerful servants, Tirion called upon the Light for a final burst of strength and broke free of the icy prison that the Lich King had encased him in.
With a mighty blow of the Ashbringer (still my favorite sword in the game) he shattered Frostmourn, freeing the trapped souls within.
The souls were not pleased with the Lich King.
To the very last, the Lich King fought, but at this point it was a hopeless battle. With Frostmourn gone, much of his offensive power was diminished. It was a dps race as he fought in desperation.
Yet his resistance was in vain, for we are the champions of Azeroth. We laid him low and finally brought down the vaunted Lich King. The Order had Triumphed. The final cinematic and the result of this titanic struggle I shall leave for those who have not seen it to find for themselves, whether through beating the Lich King or through Youtube. But it was amazing.
We got some good guild screen shots, gathered around the fallen corpse of our foe. The effort put into this fight and its challenge even at level 85 made this victory after some solid progression raiding every bit worth the effort.
Congratulations Order of the Triad!

The Order Rocks ICC: Part 4
We now come, friends, to the piece de resistance, the completions of our goals, that mighty foe whom none could vanquish before, the Lich King: Arthas Menethil. What began with Kil'jaeden's banishment of the elder shaman Ner'zhul to Azeroth, his spirit chained in cursed armor and frozen in a block of unmelting ice, would soon end.
As Arthas stepped from his throne and descended to meet us, Tirion Fordring (who apparently got there first... nice of him to help us along the way) and he traded insults back and forth ending with Arthas, rather genially really, encasing Tirion in a block of ice.
The battle was joined...
We were fairly consistently able to make it through the first phase and the first transitional phase of the fight, figuring out a new thing here and there. The main issues were necrotic plague that must not only be removed from raid members, but as it is removed, must then jump to one of the very powerful undead vrykul in order to tick down its two million health. Oh, and to top it off, it gains stacks, adding 50,000 damage per stack, so it really should be dispelled before it is allowed to tick; and his pain and suffering debuff that deals damage until the target is healed to with 90% of their full health.
I was offtanking and after some initial sudden deaths due to the plague, Colgentleman got quite adept at removing the thing and it didn't give us much more trouble, especially once re realized that stacking it was the key to getting rid of the giant baddies that I otherwise found myself having to kill on my own (which took a while).
And of course, there were...
The predictable...
Deaths...
However, we really all in all did an excellent job of progression raiding, learning a new thing or adapting our strategy each time under the watchful eye of our beloved guild leader, Theactionman. The second phase proved more difficult than the first, but we did mange to do well in spite of a few left over frost orbs blowing people off.
Two main things to watch for here... Defile which is cast on a player and creates a defiled area on the ground. If it deals damage to any player, gets progressively bigger. We had a fun couple wipes where it covered the ENTIRE platform. The second, and possibly even more annoying, were the valkir. These swoop in, pick someone up, and (rather quickly) fly them over to the edge and dump them. Though Colgentleman tried, he could not grab them back from the edge, so we had to resort to ordinary tactics of stunning them and bringing them down. We got better at this, though the danger of having so many melee characters bunched up when he casts Defile made this... problematic at times.
And now friends, we come to the final chapter: the last phase of the fight and the death of the dreaded Lich King... tune in for the last chapter of The Order Rocks ICC!

The Order Rocks ICC: Part 3
Having put an end to the Professor, two more wings were left before we could challenge the Lich King himself. The first of these was the Crimson Hall, where old foes were resurrected, and one of the more fun fights of the citadel was to be found. First up was the Blood Council, three blood princes previously fought: Keleseth from Utgarde Keep, Valanar from Naxxanar, crashed on the Borean Tundra, and Taldaram from Ahn'Kahet: the Old Kingdom. None of the three posed much of a challenge when first fought (save perhaps Taldaram on heroic AK though he was the easiest fight. But that's just because heroic AK sucked balls), and the fight was no challenge now. Tactically, there is little to do but attack the one with health. Ranged dps got to play beach ball while this was going on (don't let them touch the ground!) and we easily defeated them.
Following the Three Stooges, we got to face Blood Queen Lana'thel, leader of the blood elves that joined Arthas' service upon the fall of Kael'thas. This fight is fun! She bites a player who then turns into a vampire and for the next 60 seconds goes on a no threat, self healing, dps spree. at the end of that time they have to bite another player or be mind controlled. Aside from that, dodge the fire, high five the other player when you're connected by a beam, watch for the fear, and don't stand in the tornadoes and you're golden! We downed her after a glorious battle.
With the death of the Blood Queen, we found ourselves on the last stretch before the Lich King: The Frostwing Halls, center of the dreaded frostwyrm host. The first boss here, Valithria Dreamwalker, is unlike any other raid fight we had ever done. She is an emerald dragon, trapped while asleep (they always seem to do that don't they? Why does ANYONE go into the Emerald Dream anymore?) and chained by necromantic energies. The goal is to heal her back to full health at which point she just sorta kills everything without effort. Maybe she could have put forth some effort when they captured her? Oh yes, she was sleeping while the scourge roamed the earth.
She opens portals to a special stage that the healers go into in order to boost healing done by swimming around collecting orbs as depicted below:
This fight got a little chaotic as we were going for the achievement of entering all portals. Unfortunately, the first time through, portals spawned just as she reached full health and thus we did not get the achievement. The second time through we got it though!
The final fight before the Lich King himself was the queen of the frost brood, Sindragosa. This bad ass huge dragon was easily the hardest fight next to Arthas. Stacking debuffs at the slightest provocation that you have to let wear off or they will reach such a height that they would kill even the mightiest tank (Sgthatred is among these incidentally).
She also casts ice prisons that trap two raid members at random (and anyone standing too close) before she rises into the air and AOEs the hell out of everything not behind the ice blocks. The combination of watching your own stacks, running away when appropriate, dodging ice bombs, and avoiding being ice blocked when not targeted as well as an incredible looking boss and an overzealous voice actress makes this for a fun and difficult fight.
Having succeeded in destroying all the bosses in our way, the portal to the Frozen Throne itself opened, allowing us to descend to the very base of the glacial fissure upon which the Ice Crown Citadel is built to challenge our quarry... the Lich King himself! Tune in for The Order Rocks ICC: Part 4!

The Order Rocks ICC: Part 2
Welcome to part two of The Order Rocks ICC! having downed Saurfang, we pressed on to the very heart of the citadel, where the Lich King's dreaded minions work quietly and sleeplessly to come up with new and ever more insidious ways to destroy the denizens of Azeroth.
Our welcome to this central platform was a calm walk around the circle followed by aggroing every monster in the room at once. We still are unsure of how this occurred, but it made for my second favorite moment of the raid (following downing Arthas) as Colgentleman and myself (Quantums) kept the raid alive through a ridiculous sortie in which more and more mobs just kept coming.
Following this swath of undead death, we plowed onwards through the most obnoxious mobs it has ever been our displeasure to meet (those damned dogs). These coagulated conglomerates of rotting flesh and gnawed bone stack a debuff that reduces healing on the tank while they summon adds that stack a debuff that increases damage taken. To top it off, the dog at some health percentage reduces everyone in the raid to 10% health instantly. This was bad enough when that meant you had 50,000 health to heal back up through, but at Sgthatred's 200k + health, that's a LOT of mana to heal up, not to mention the rest of the raid that is also taking damage. Fortunately we got through both of these without too much trouble.
We then entered the Plagueworks where Hubert J Farnsworth awaited us with a few of his creations. To the left lies Festergut so named because this... thing... tends to fester the gut just by looking at it. Also it causes people to explode on occasion. Basically, though, this fight is a no brainer against a fighter with no brain. Stand in the plague gas (you cant avoid it) and watch out for... well we never figured the technicalities out, but mostly we just killed Festergut posthaste.
Next up is his/her/it's twin, Rotface (rather self explanatory really). Amid many a "good news!" from the dear professor, this fight is yet another tank and spank, provided that no one stands in the ooze. There are little slimes that tend to combine to big slimes, but our dps was so ferocious and our heals (if I do say so myself) so good that we were able to ignore them.
Once those two were dead we went to Professor Putricide's place, just up the ramp and - actually we had forgotten to open the two valves guarded by the abominations, so we had to go back and open them. However, we finally made our way into the corridor with those damn bugs we all know and love.
After an interminable period of those damn bugs, we finally got in to see the professor. His lab is the center from which all of the scourge plague comes. As the fight begins, he announces that he has perfected a plague that will destroy all life of Azeroth. Fortunately for Azeroth, we were there to face him!
With Pookymancer turned into a giant abomination for the purpose of drinking up green goo and belching it at various slimes (this place is, as a rule, disgusting), we faced off against the professor and his three phases. First we went back and forth between slime spawners and dpsed down the adds as best we could (mostly they didn't do TOO much damage). Keeping out of the slime was a must. Second, he grew tentacles and the fight continued! Finally, he morphed into a freaky tentacle thing at which point it became a dps race. We are good at dps races.
And so, we defeated the crazy Professor Hubert "Putricide" Farnsworth whose mad science had finally caused him to go too far. Oh science and your sciency ways, what will you come up with next? We may never know, but the next that the evil evilness of the Ice Crown Citadel had to throw at us was the Crimson Hall, lair of the blood prince council and home to the blood queen vampire gone twilight, Lana'thel. Read on in The Order Rocks ICC: Part 3!

The Order Rocks ICC: Part 1
Greetings this is the first in a series of posts chronicling our spectacular push through ICC and the take-down of Arthas "The Lich King" Menethil. The guild really came together on this one I think, and we did some very swift progression raiding. I will more or less separate these posts by wing of the ICC. Bear with me as much of the time it had to be a quick shot between heals. Still, I got some great screen shots, particularly of the Lich King fight.
First up, the spire!
Lord Marrowgar, pieced together from the bones of fallen heroes, awaited us at the base of the spire that connects all of the Ice Crown Citadel. Between the falling spikes and swaths of flame, all you need to worry about is spinning whirlwind death upon the blade of what may be the coolest looking boss in the game. Our own Twothumbs had a good time hanging out on the spikes, and we managed to down him without too much trouble.
Heartened by the death of this first enemy, we plunged deeper into the Lich King's stronghold to face the head of the Cult of the Damned, Lady Deathwhisper. As we quickly found out, she does anything but whisper and our rallying cry for this battle was "SHUT UP, BITCH!" as she preached and shouted down all opposition until felled by steel and claw and flame.
Having downed the duchess of the damned, we continued ever onward and upward. That is, assuming you caught the elevator the first time. If not, you watched the rest of the guild continue onward and upward. With the exception of the Lich King, the most deaths suffered in ICC were due to elevators, so watch out for these things. Or at least don't auto run towards the gaping pit and go afk for a beer.
Following the Lady, we emerged on the ramparts of the citadel (which, by the way, we could have been flown to by the gunship. But no matter...) to discover that the scumbag alliance, gnome lovers that they are, was attacking the valiant Horde onslaught. We boarded Orgrim's Hammer to face off against the Skybreaker.
As it turned out, the best strategy for this battle is to talk to the goblin and get the rocket packs BEFORE starting the fight. However, after one wipe, we managed to get far enough to discover that one should not facetank Muradin Bronzebeard. Nor should one stand in the glowing target areas on the ground.
However, we got the jet pack hop down fairly quickly thereafter and settled into a nice routine of rocketing back and forth: killing casters, then running back like little girls from the dwarf. I personally enjoyed hopping, changing to cat form and charging mid air so I never actually had to take a step when attacking the casters.
Last up for this post, we have the bereaved son of Highlord Saurfang. Quite the bad ass is Deathbringer Saurfang as he callously force chokes all the NPCs with us, including his father, triggering a dps race that is much easier with 8 people than with 5, as we found out across our two forays into the Citadel.
We of course emerged triumphant (each one of our dps being worth two or three spectacularly geared level 80's) and the grateful father retrieved his son's body and took him to the Orgrim's Hammer. It was about the time the funeral procession started that we realized that we hadn't looted the body. We asked nicely if we could despoil his son's remains, but Saurfang the elder didn't seem keen to stop and let us.
Thus we conquered the first two wings of the dreaded ICC, some fights still a challenge even as heroic geared cataclysm raiders. Read on in Part 2 as we ascended to the central citadel to take on the Plagueworks, the Crimson Hall, and the Frostwing Halls before finally challenging the Lich King himself!

Submit for your consideration: a mascot. One who is perhaps a little late in coming to the race and yet is by no means inferior and is in fact superior to those who have come before. He is a man whose normal pronunciation leaves the mind spinning in a whirlwind of diction possibilities, with a voice that can hardly be ignored. There's a campaign sign up ahead you're entering... the torrid zone.
